Story Time:
In watching the movie "The Big Fish" I learned that to have a good relationship you must trust each other. It can't go one way, it has to be mutual. In the movie Edward trusted Will but will did not trust his dad(Edward). Will didn't trust his dad because Edward always had these stories that Will just grew up not to believe because he thought they were so absurd.
A scene stood out to me in the movie "The Big Fish". It was the scene where the witch shows Edward how he dies. I think it stood out to me because it teaches him not to be afraid because he knows he won't die doing the dangerous things he does. This scene also shows that he is brave because he encounters the witch and the witch likes him because he was the bravest boy of them all.
I think the lesson that I got from watching the movie is that every story has a message behind it. Edwards stories may have been crazy but he was just trying to tech his son about life. I also think that Will took the stories too literally and that all Edwards stories were just a big metaphor.
I think the metaphor of "The Big Fish" is that the big fish only gets big because it never gets caught. this is another way of saying that Edward will live on forever in his stories because the story of catching that big fish will never die. It also shows how will has a son and that the stories live on through generations.
I understand now that me as the role of Will is the antagonist because I don't believe the stories. I need to have this feeling with Edward in the musical for it to be good. I need to have that feeling of never believing in him until the end of the show where I start to understand why he is what he is.
I agree your take on the movie and i believe you will do very well as Willl.

ReplyDeleteI really like your outlook on the metaphor. I agree that Edward is the type of person who wishes to be remembered in his own way and his imagination reached many different people. The audience will take away plenty of perspective after seeing the musical!

ReplyDeleteI have never thought of big fishes meaning like this. I have always though of the message as being the hero, not that your story would live if you were. I think your message is awesome but I feel like Edward didn't think of "being the hero" as being remembered in his stories, at least not when he was young.
